Diwali is a time to celebrate with loved ones- lighting lamps, sharing sweets, and wearing cherished jewellery. Sadly, its also a time when thieves may target homes for gold and valuables. Protect what's precious to you by following these simple steps:

Photograph and record details of your jewellery - include descriptions, weights, and valuations and keep the records in a safe place.

Mark your Jewellery with police-approved forensic marking kit or discreate engraving so it can be identified if stolen

Use a bank or registered security deposit box to store high value jewellery.

- If you must keep gold and home use a high quality safe that's securely bolted to the floor or wall-not hidden in bedrooms, cupboards, or lofts.

Avoid discussing or displaying gold on social media or in public; thieves may use this information to target you.

Install strong locks, alarms and CCTV to deter burglars. Use approved installers.

Use timer switches and lights if you're out visiting friends and family - make your home look occupied.

Fit a doorbell camera and or burglar alarm to deter intruders and assist in identifying offenders.

Never hand over gold or jewellery to unexpected visitors, phone callers, or couriers - police will never ask you to do this.
